New job tomorrow

Bit scary really. Tomorrow morning I go off to my new job. I have only the vaguest idea of what I'll be doing, when I'll be paid, where I'll be living, how it'll all work out.

Still, it's only for a couple of months (possibility of longer term, but we'll see).

Probably the biggest question is "how much stuff should I take?" My tower case and large flatscreen would seem like overkill. But it'll need to come up at some point.

Looks like I'll be going up to Leeds for a couple days to get an idea of the job, then across to Crewe to meet my sister, then down to south west Wales to visit my mum, then back to Leeds. It's going to be expensive: hundreds of pounds just in train fare.

*sigh* I need to pack.
  • An adventure, and you get paid to have it. How cool!
    • Hush! Don't let people know how exciting life is, or everyone will want to have some!

Yes, secretly I'm excited. But it's been a while since I dragged myself out of my safe rut. And I'm very worried about finances, so it's scarier than it has been in the past. I mean, I never in the past had other people who were depending on me. Now I do. That's scary.

But, yeah. It's an adventure, and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was excited. I'm even enough of a big kid that the 20+hours that I'll be spending on a train this weekend will actually be exciting to me, and I'll spend it looking out the window and being accosted by talkative drunks because I have a brimmed hat :D
  • Bugger. I assume you didn't have a chance to book in advance? You can get London to Leeds for a tenner if you book at the right time.
    • I had a semichance, but the parts I could have booked ahead, I will be getting refunded anyway, and other parts are an arse because you can only pick up the tickets from certain stations, none of which are near me.

And I didn't know far enough in advance to get them mailled.
      • Though, a tenner is GOOD. I'll definitely check harder for the next time I come down to pick up more of my stuff. Thanks for the tip :D
  • That's the reason I got a laptop in the end!

Sounds rather like my situation. Start my job in London on Monday, but don't move down for another two weeks after that so busy packing everything (again!) in the meantime...

Thinking of you, Dewi... best of luck

Having recently quit my job, I'm not sure I can see the attraction, but then I did have a pretty dull time of it. I'd be very suprised if yours isn't a touch more exciting. :-)
